You Are My Secret: Episode 1

You Are My Secret is a drama that just wrapped up about a month ago, mid-August. It follows the story of Tu Xiao Ning (Zhang Jia Ning) and Ji Yu Heng (Wei Zhe Ming), two former high school classmates that reconnect after ten years. It’s a drama with a marriage of convenience, a secret workplace romance, cohabitation, and even a boss and employee relationship all rolled into one. This 32-episode series, plus one special epilogue episode, seemingly has everything that anyone could possibly want for a sweet rom-com all in one package, but how will it all play out? We shall see.

According to the description, the drama follows Tu Xiao Ning, a 27-year-old woman who continuously goes on blind dates to find her perfect match, but has been unsuccessful. She happens to run into Ji Yu Heng at one matchmaking event, but they find that their lives intertwine more than that and what happens from then on is a secret double life. It’s a series that shows a lot of potential from its first episode as we’re kind of thrown right into the mix of it all from the matchmaking, to workplace drama, and even introducing the ex-boyfriend, who Xiao Ning dated for seven years. It’s quite a ride, but we’re here for it. We have only just begun.

My Roommate is a Detective Series Review

This 2020 drama is a little zany, a little silly, and sometimes makes you scratch your head, but nevertheless, My Roommate is a Detective is a series that I definitely enjoyed and it definitely made me laugh out loud at some moments. This 36-episode drama follows Qiao Chu Sheng (Zhang Yun Long) as the recently promoted Inspector Qiao as he attempts to solve some crimes, particularly that of murder, that happen in Shanghai in one of the concession regions. One of those cases, the first one, brings him Lu Yao (Hu Yi Tian), a genius who is able to use his brain and quick wit to deduce the reasonings and methods behind the murder cases and who is always looking for a way to make money. Bai You Ning (Xiao Yan) rounds out the trio as a reporter and daughter of a highly respected mafia boss who is able to help the male duo in getting some information from the ground and sometimes throwing a little human insight into the mix.

The three of them form a crime solving trio that takes us through our episodes as they solve crimes, but also handle their personal lives along the way. It’s a show that manages multiple themes, whether that be the mystery of the murder, the heartwarming relationships, or even just the outright silly. But, nevertheless, it was somehow a show that I found myself fully behind and did actually enjoy.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it. As a reminder, this will contain spoilers about the series as a whole.

Koi Desu: Yankee-kun to Hakujou Garu Episode 1

I’ll be honest. I’ve binge watched this series and have since watched it multiple times. There’s just something about this series that keeps bringing me back to it. But, before I start going on about what I like about it, and what I subsequently don’t like about it, let me first introduce this drama.

As you can see, the title of this 2021 Fall Japanese drama is Koi Desu: Yankee-kun to Hakujou Garu, which translates to It’s Love: Yankee and White Cane Girl. For those of you who might not know, a yankee is pretty much kind of like a juvenile delinquent, someone who causes and gets into trouble. The title pretty much explains the premise of what the ten episodes are going to be about, but I can give a little bit more than that.

This drama follows Akaza Yukiko (Sugisaki Hana), our White Cane girl. Yukiko has amblyopia, meaning she can only vaguely recognize colors and shapes. Her vision is blurry, but she is able to read large written letters with a magnifying device. Her and our resident Yankee, Kurokawa Morio (Sugino Yosuke), fatefully meet one day and as they say, the rest is history.

While this first episode sets up the world that we’re going to be living in the next ten episodes, it does a good job in showing us who these characters are and just what about them makes them so loveable. So, let’s get started!
